Born in 1965 in Alicante (Spain), designer Mario Ruiz graduated in Industrial Design at Elisava, the prestigious University School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona. He began his professional career in 1995 with the opening of his own studio in Barcelona.
His multidisciplinary skills and experience in various fields have allowed him to gain the trust of more than 120 leading companies worldwide -from Australia, USA, Sweden, France, Italy, Canada, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain-.
Siemens, Steelcase, Teknion Studio, Offecct, lapalma, Thomson, Arflex, Haworth, Grundig, Palau, Gandia Blasco, Expormim, HBF, Metalarte, Joquer, B.lux, etc. are some of the many clients Mario Ruiz has worked with. For some of these companies, he has not only developed projects directly related to their products in different areas (like home and office furniture, lighting, textile design, product design), but he also was the creative director defining their product.
Mario Ruiz’s work has been exhibited at trade fairs in Europe and Japan and has been recognised with more than 40 major awards. For instance, in 2016 he received the prestigious National Design Prize, granted by the King of Spain, Felipe VI and the Ministry of Economy.
Mario Ruiz has also received Delta de Plata award granted by Industrial Design Association, ADI-FAD, from Barcelona. In Europe and the United States he has received numerous awards from Red Dot, IF, Design Plus and Wallpaper. Between 1992 and 2002, Mario Ruiz taught Industrial Projects at the Eina and Elisava design schools in Barcelona. He has also given several lectures in Tokyo, Singapore, New York, Dubai, London, and Chicago.
